John 3:22-36
John the Baptist understands his role. He uses the example of the friend of the bridegroom. The friend’s role is not to be the center of attention but to rejoice for the bridegroom. John says, “Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.” What a picture of discipleship. We don’t have to be the center of attention—we get to point to the One who is. Jesus came from above, speaking the words of God. He has been given the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in His hands. As disciples, we point to Christ’s authority from God.
